| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Billy McDaniel on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the City of Metropolis; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Mayor McDaniel has faithfully served the citizens | ||||||
| 7 | of Metropolis for 20 years; he first served as alderman for | ||||||
| 8 | Ward Three from 2001 to 2005 and then as mayor from 2005 to | ||||||
| 9 | 2021; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Prior to public service, Mayor McDaniel was the | ||||||
| 11 | owner for 32 years of Bill's Bar-B-Q, a business started by his | ||||||
| 12 | father in 1965; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, During his time in public office, Mayor McDaniel | ||||||
| 14 | has been a part of many improvements for Metropolis, including | ||||||
| 15 | the industrial park, a state-of-the-art soccer complex and | ||||||
| 16 | baseball facility, a new water plant, and programs for seniors | ||||||
| 17 | and youth; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Mayor McDaniel's steady leadership shepherded | ||||||
| 19 | Metropolis through several natural disasters, including the | ||||||
| 20 | 200-year flood in 2011 and the 150-year ice storm in 2009; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Mayor McDaniel has been a welcoming presence to | ||||||
| 2 | the many visitors of Metropolis particularly during the annual | ||||||
| 3 | Superman Celebration and the Fort Massac Encampment, which | ||||||
| 4 | each bring tens of thousands of tourists; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Mayor McDaniel is noted for his hard work as | ||||||
| 6 | mayor and his dedication to the position, maintaining an | ||||||
| 7 | open-door policy and working an estimated 51,000 hours; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, In his spare time, Mayor McDaniel enjoys spending | ||||||
| 9 | time with his wife of 52 years, Betty, and their daughter, | ||||||
| 10 | Robbin; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we congratulate Metropolis Mayor Billy McDaniel on his | ||||||
| 14 | retirement, thank him for his service, and wish him the best in | ||||||
| 15 | all his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to Billy McDaniel as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 18 | esteem.
