HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
4Evangelist Mary Ellen "EG" Gwin; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Gwin was born to Flim and Amy Moore on April
618, 1951; she grew up in a home built by her father in Robbins;
7she was educated in Robbins and Blue Island; she earned
8bachelor's degrees in Music and in Education from Roosevelt
9University of Chicago; she married Lloyd E. Gwin on May 22,
101974; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Gwin was an adult education teacher in
12Chicago and Urbana for more than 20 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mary Gwin served as the minister of music,
14director of ministries, ordained minister, and first lady and
15co-pastor along with her husband Bishop Gwin at The Church Of
16The Living God in Champaign for nearly 40 years; she was also
17the mother of The Church Of The Living God National Assembly
18Brotherhood; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mary Gwin was deeply committed to her faith; she
20loved music, especially Gospel and Christian music, and she
21loved singing in choirs, directing choirs, playing

1accompaniment on the piano, and composing choral music;
2recently, she enjoyed listening to choirs; she also enjoyed
3shopping and dressing, and she was known for being the best
4dressed person in all situations; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Gwin was a devoted wife as well as a loving
6mother and grandmother; she had a gift for helping others find
7their true purposes; she was filled with love and light and
8influenced many with the power of her faith; she will be
9missed; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Gwin was preceded in death by her parents,
11Brother Flim and Sister Amy Moore, and her brother, Flim
12Wesley Moore; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mary Gwin is survived her husband of 46 years,
14Senior Bishop Lloyd E. "BG" Gwin (BG); her children, Bettye
15Tanya Jordan (Earl), Pancho Moore-Lloyd II, and Christina Poe
16(Darrell); her sisters, Grace Jackson, Lori Colquitt (Pastor
17Lewis), and Leah Taylor (late husband, Todd); her brother,
18Steven Moore; her grandchildren, RaShaunda, Keisha, K'Shawna,
19Aija, Ariauna, Christiana, Christyn, and Christian; her
20nieces, Candace Gwin, Zipporah Gwin, Victoria Taylor, Amie
21Lewis, and Alisa Jefferson (Raymond); her nephews, Clarence
22(Josh) Taylor, Leonard Morris, and Duane Lewis (Laurentia);
23her great-niece, A'Leah Gwin; her friend and caregiver, Angela

1Evans; a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins,
2and friends; and the family of The Church Of The Living God
3Champaign and the Church Brotherhood; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we mourn the passing of Evangelist Mary Ellen "EG" Gwin and
7extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
8who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Mary Gwin as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
