1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate DeKalb American Legion | ||||||
4 | Post 66 for 100 years of service to the community; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, In the fall of 1919, the American Legion National | ||||||
6 | Organization granted the County of DeKalb a temporary post | ||||||
7 | designation of Post 66; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, By 1921, the City of DeKalb organized their own | ||||||
9 | post, which was granted the post designation of 66 while other | ||||||
10 | community legion posts in DeKalb County received new post | ||||||
11 | numbers; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The American Legion programs and activities have | ||||||
13 | strengthened the nation one community at a time through | ||||||
14 | American Legion Baseball, American Legion Drum & Bugle Corps, | ||||||
15 | and American Legion Bands, which were some of the nation's | ||||||
16 | most successful amateur programs working to educate people on | ||||||
17 | the importance of sportsmanship, citizenship, and fitness; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Several programs have connected local | ||||||
19 | legionnaires, also known as legion members, with college | ||||||
20 | veterans, returning veterans, recovering wounded warriors, and | ||||||
21 | their families by providing support activities; and

1 | WHEREAS, The American Legion has raised millions of | ||||||
2 | dollars in donations at the local, state, and national levels | ||||||
3 | to assist veterans and their families and has provided college | ||||||
4 | scholarship opportunities; within DeKalb County, Post 66 has | ||||||
5 | contributed to educational programs and scholarships; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, DeKalb American Legion Post 66 has also been an | ||||||
7 | unyielding supporter of military service throughout DeKalb | ||||||
8 | County, which has led local civic leaders to name the City of | ||||||
9 | DeKalb as one of the most veteran-friendly cities in northern | ||||||
10 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, DeKalb American Legion Post 66 provides an honor | ||||||
12 | guard for civic events and military funerals, created the | ||||||
13 | DeKalb Hometown Hero banner program for both current and | ||||||
14 | former American heroes serving in the military, and | ||||||
15 | established a general sense of community within DeKalb County; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The American Legion's success depends entirely on | ||||||
18 | active membership, participation, and volunteerism, as the | ||||||
19 | organization belongs to the people it serves and the | ||||||
20 | communities in which it thrives; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, The Legionnaires' sense of obligation to |

1 | community, state, and nation drives honest advocacy for all | ||||||
2 | veterans; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
4 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
5 | we congratulate DeKalb American Legion Post 66 on its 100th | ||||||
6 | anniversary, and we commend Post 66 for its years of service to | ||||||
7 | the community; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to DeKalb American Legion Post 66 as an expression | ||||||
10 | of our esteem and respect.
