HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marcia
4Robinson Blair of Chicago, who passed away on March 10, 2021;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marcia Blair was born in Chicago to Roosevelt and
7Frances Robinson on October 7, 1947; she grew up on the south
8side of Chicago, where she attended Doolittle Elementary
9School and later graduated from Harlan High School; she
10attended Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, where
11she was initiated into the Beta Kappa chapter of Alpha Kappa
12Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1968; she married Frank L.
13Blair Jr. on October 5, 1968; she earned her Bachelor of Arts
14in Education in 1969; alongside her husband, she settled in
15Chicago after graduation; they had one child, Marla, in 1971;
16she later earned a master's degree from Governors State
17University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, A talented educator, Marcia Blair served in the
19Chicago Public School system for over 35 years; she worked at
20several schools, including Dunne Elementary School and Robert
21Healy Elementary School; she retired from Robert A. Black
22Magnet Elementary School in 2005; and

1    WHEREAS, Marcia Blair was a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa
2Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; she was a longtime member of the
3Theta Omega chapter in Chicago; she celebrated 50 years as a
4Golden Soror in 2018; she was committed to the sorority's
5sisterhood and scholarship; she was proud to have a continued
6family legacy of sisterhood and service with her daughter,
7sisters, and several nieces also initiated into the sorority;
8she worked together with her daughter in the sorority, and
9they enjoyed spending this time together; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Marcia Blair was committed to her faith and was
11baptized as a child at Gammon United Methodist Church; she was
12a member of the South Shore United Methodist Church, where she
13served as a member of the United Methodist Women, the Pastor
14Parish Relations Committee, the October Birthday Club, and the
15Women's Day Chorus; she also enjoyed organizing social outings
16with church members, which included many plays, musicals, and
17good conversations; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Marcia Blair was affectionately known as "Dottie"
19to family and friends and "Nana" to her grandchildren; she
20found great joy in traveling with her extended family in her
21retirement; she took annual vacations with Marla and Zion, and
22they most recently visited Havana, Cuba; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Marcia Blair was preceded in death by her

1husband, Frank; her parents; and her siblings, Margell,
2Lamont, Deborah, and Lawrence; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Marcia Blair is survived by her daughter, Marla
4Blair-Hohenkirk (David); her grandsons, Zion and Xavier; her
5sisters, Mary Hughes and Delores Jackson (Robert); her
6sisters-in-law, Mary Robinson and Cynthia Ann Blair Ricks;
7generations of nieces and nephews; a host of cousins; and many
8lifelong and recent friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Marcia Robinson Blair and extend our
12sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
13and loved her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Marcia Blair as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
