| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to commend the DeKalb Rotary Club for | ||||||
4 | their 100 years of service to the community and the world; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club was organized under the | ||||||
6 | sponsorship of the Joliet Rotary Club on January 22, 1921; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club follows the objectives of | ||||||
8 | Rotary International, including the development of | ||||||
9 | acquaintance as an opportunity for service, high ethical | ||||||
10 | standards in business and professions, the recognition of the | ||||||
11 | worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of | ||||||
12 | each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society, | ||||||
13 | the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's | ||||||
14 | personal, business, and community life, and the advancement of | ||||||
15 | international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a | ||||||
16 | world fellowship of business and professional persons united | ||||||
17 | in the ideal of service; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, From its inception, the DeKalb Rotary Club began | ||||||
19 | community service projects, including the construction of a | ||||||
20 | swimming pool for DeKalb County citizens and the establishment | ||||||
21 | of a campground for the Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations | ||||||
22 | in DeKalb County in 1926, which included 27 acres, a pool, and |

1 | several buildings; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, To expand service opportunities, the DeKalb | ||||||
3 | Rotary Club sponsored the formation of the Sycamore Rotary | ||||||
4 | Club in 1944 and jointly sponsored the Kishwaukee Sunrise | ||||||
5 | Rotary in 1991; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club has also supported | ||||||
7 | communities across the United States and the world by | ||||||
8 | supporting the global Polio Eradication Initiative, for which | ||||||
9 | Rotary International recognized the DeKalb Rotary Club as one | ||||||
10 | of the top 50 clubs in the world to support the initial | ||||||
11 | fundraising initiative; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club has helped the world even | ||||||
13 | further by partnering with the Rotary Club of San Doná di | ||||||
14 | Piave, Italy to complete two international humanitarian | ||||||
15 | projects, including the purchase of an ambulance for a village | ||||||
16 | in the Congo and gifting an EKG machine to a village in | ||||||
17 | Guatemala; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club continues to live the | ||||||
19 | Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" by providing music | ||||||
20 | recitals to retirement and rehabilitation centers, donating | ||||||
21 | and volunteering with Meals on Wheels, acknowledging | ||||||
22 | outstanding high school students with donations to school |

1 | programs, and contributing to drug prevention activities, | ||||||
2 | after-school literacy projects, and multiple other service | ||||||
3 | projects benefiting the community; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The DeKalb Rotary Club has continued to meet | ||||||
5 | during the COVID-19 pandemic through online meetings, ensuring | ||||||
6 | a consistent line of communication with Club members and the | ||||||
7 | community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
9 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
10 | we congratulate the DeKalb Rotary Club on 100 years of service | ||||||
11 | to the community and the world; and be it further
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the DeKalb Rotary Club as a symbol of our respect | ||||||
14 | and esteem.
