HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who have given
4their lives in service to their communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police has proudly served the
6citizens of Illinois since 1922, and its dedication to public
7safety has saved countless lives and enriched the State of
8Illinois; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Illinois State Police Trooper Glenn Gagnon was
10killed in an automobile accident while pursuing a car that had
11passed his patrol car at 80 mph on Route 54 near Kankakee; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Trooper Gagnon was born to Mr. and Mrs. David
13Gagnon in Clifton, Illinois on October 14, 1924, and he had one
14brother and one sister; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Trooper Gagnon was a student in the Clifton
16school district, graduating from Clifton High School, and he
17served in the United States Navy in World War II and was
18married to Ramona Hustedt; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Trooper Gagnon had served with the Illinois State
20Police for six years and was assigned to District 6; and

1    WHEREAS, Trooper Gagnon was survived by his wife; his
2parents; and his sister; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of
6Illinois Route 50 from the intersection of North
7Greenwood/Fair street to the North Hobbie/Brookmont Street as
8the "Trooper Glenn Gagnon Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
10is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
11State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
12giving notice of the name of the "Trooper Glenn Gagnon
13Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to the surviving family of Trooper Gagnon, the
16Illinois State Police, and the Secretary of Transportation.
