Amends the Energy
Efficient Building Act. Provides that the Capital Development Board shall adopt rules to require that each newly-constructed residential building in the State that includes a garage shall provide for sufficient electric generating capacity in the garage to charge an electric vehicle. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Energy
Efficient Building Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 15.1 as follows: |
6 | | (20 ILCS 3125/15.1 new) |
7 | | Sec. 15.1. Electric vehicle charging; residential |
8 | | buildings. |
9 | | (a) In addition to any other requirements set forth in |
10 | | this Act, the Board shall adopt rules to require that each |
11 | | newly-constructed residential building in the State that |
12 | | includes a garage shall provide for sufficient electric |
13 | | generating capacity in the garage to charge an electric |
14 | | vehicle. |
15 | | (b) As used in this Section: |
16 | | "Electric vehicle" means a battery-powered electric |
17 | | vehicle operated solely by electricity or a plug-in hybrid |
18 | | electric vehicle that operates on electricity and gasoline and |
19 | | has a battery that can be recharged from an external source. |
20 | | "Newly-constructed residential building" means a |
21 | | residential building that is first constructed on or after |
22 | | January 1, 2023.
