Amends the Counties Code. Provides that, in addition to any other qualifications provided by law, a person is not eligible to hold the office of State's Attorney in any county unless he or she is a legal resident of the State of Illinois and has never been convicted of a felony. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 3-9001.5 as follows: |
6 | | (55 ILCS 5/3-9001.5 new) |
7 | | Sec. 3-9001.5. Qualifications. In addition to any other |
8 | | qualifications provided by law, a person is not eligible to |
9 | | hold the office of State's Attorney in any county unless he or |
10 | | she is a legal resident of the State of Illinois and has never |
11 | | been convicted of a felony.

12 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
13 | | becoming law.
