Creates the Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention Screening Act. Defines "sport" and "student athlete". Provides that a student athlete over the age of 12 must undergo sudden cardiac death screening before the student athlete may participate in sports. Provides that a student athlete must undergo sudden cardiac death screening once in middle school or high school and then once before postsecondary-education-level sports.

1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Sudden |
5 | | Cardiac Death Prevention Screening Act. |
6 | | Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
|
7 | | "Sport" means any activity organized by the school where |
8 | | student athletes compete against one another or against other |
9 | | schools for enjoyment and entertainment.

10 | | "Student athlete" means a student who is in any type of |
11 | | school, including, but not limited to, middle school, high |
12 | | school, or postsecondary education, that participates in a |
13 | | sport.

14 | | Section 10. Screening for sudden cardiac death.
|
15 | | (a) A student athlete over the age of 12 must undergo |
16 | | sudden cardiac death screening before the student athlete may |
17 | | participate in sports.
|
18 | | (b) A student athlete must undergo sudden cardiac death |
19 | | screening once in middle school or high school and once before |
20 | | postsecondary-education-level sports.
