SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/11-8

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that an election authority establishing a vote center (where a voter in its jurisdiction is allowed to vote on election day regardless of the precinct in which they are registered) under the Section shall identify the location, hours of operation, and any health and safety requirements by the 40th day preceding an election (rather than the 2022 general primary election and the 2022 general election) and certify such to the State Board of Elections. Removes a repeal date of January 1, 2023 for the vote center provisions. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
5Section 11-8 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/11-8)
7    (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2023)
8    Sec. 11-8. Vote centers.
9    (a) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, election
10authorities shall establish at least one location to be
11located at an office of the election authority or in the
12largest municipality within its jurisdiction where all voters
13in its jurisdiction are allowed to vote on election day during
14polling place hours, regardless of the precinct in which they
15are registered. An election authority establishing such a
16location under this Section shall identify the location and
17any health and safety requirements by the 40th day preceding
18an election the 2022 general primary election and the 2022
19general election and certify such to the State Board of
20Elections.
21    (b) This Section is repealed on January 1, 2023.
