Amends the School Code. Requires the school board of each school district to grant full-time employees of the district 5 mental health days each school year at full pay. Provides that the employee is not required to provide a medical note or other documentation to use the mental health day. Provides that used and uncompensated mental health days are not eligible for pensionable service credit under the Illinois Pension Code. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 24-6.5 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/24-6.5 new) |
7 | | Sec. 24-6.5. Mental health days. The school board of each |
8 | | school district shall grant full-time employees of the |
9 | | district 5 mental health days each school year at full pay. The |
10 | | employee is not required to provide a medical note or other |
11 | | documentation to use the mental health day. Used and |
12 | | uncompensated mental health days granted under this Section |
13 | | are not eligible for pensionable service credit under the |
14 | | Illinois Pension Code.

15 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
16 | | becoming law.
