Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Allows the Secretary of State to issue special registration plates designated as United States Submarine Veterans plates to residents of this State who served in the United States Navy as a submariner.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 3-699.22 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 3-699.22. United States Submarine Veterans plates. |
| 8 | | (a) The Secretary of State, upon receipt of all applicable |
| 9 | | fees and applications made in the form prescribed by the |
| 10 | | Secretary, may issue special registration plates designated as |
| 11 | | United States Submarine Veterans plates to residents of this |
| 12 | | State who served in the United States Navy as a submariner. The |
| 13 | | special plates issued under this Section shall be affixed only |
| 14 | | to passenger vehicles of the first division, motorcycles, and |
| 15 | | motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than |
| 16 | | 8,000 pounds. Plates under this Section shall expire according |
| 17 | | to the multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of |
| 18 | | this Code. |
| 19 | | (b) The plates shall display the United States Submarine |
| 20 | | Veterans logo and the phrase "Silent Service". In all other |
| 21 | | respects, the design and color of the special plates shall be |
| 22 | | wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate |
| 23 | | documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall accompany |
