Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a driver approaching a stop intersection indicated by a stop sign shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 11-1204 as follows:
|
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/11-1204) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-1204)
|
7 | | Sec. 11-1204. Stop and yield signs.
|
8 | | (a) Preferential right-of-way at an intersection may be |
9 | | indicated by
stop signs or yield signs as authorized in |
10 | | Section 11-302 of this Act.
|
11 | | (b) Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or |
12 | | traffic
control signal, every driver of a vehicle and every |
13 | | motorman of a streetcar
approaching a stop intersection |
14 | | indicated by a stop sign shall stop before
entering the |
15 | | crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, in the
event |
16 | | there is no crosswalk, shall stop at a clearly marked stop |
17 | | line, but
if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near |
18 | | side of the intersection, or if none, then at the point nearest |
19 | | the intersection roadway where the
driver has a view of |
20 | | approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before

21 | | entering the intersection.

22 | | (c) The driver of a vehicle approaching a yield sign if |
23 | | required for
safety to stop shall stop before entering the |
