Amends the Department of Innovation and Technology Act. Requires the Department of Innovation and Technology to work to ensure the security of the social media and Internet presence of State elected officials and State agencies and, to the extent possible, reserve the use of State government online accounts, whether social media or email, for use only by State officials, State agencies, and employees thereof, to prevent false personation. Provides for the adoption of rules. Defines "false personation".

1 | | AN ACT concerning State government.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Department of Innovation and Technology Act |
5 | | is amended by adding Section 1-65 as follows: |
6 | | (20 ILCS 1370/1-65 new) |
7 | | Sec. 1-65. State government Internet credentials; false |
8 | | personation. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
9 | | of this amendatory Act of the 102nd General Assembly, the |
10 | | Department shall work to ensure the security of the social |
11 | | media and Internet presence of State elected officials and |
12 | | State agencies, and shall, to the extent possible, reserve the |
13 | | use of State government online accounts, whether social media |
14 | | or email, for use only by State officials, State agencies, and |
15 | | employees thereof, to prevent false personation. The |
16 | | Department shall adopt all rules necessary for the |
17 | | implementation of this Section. For the purposes of this |
18 | | Section, "false personation" has the same meaning as provided |
19 | | under Section 17-2 of the Criminal Code of 2012.
