Amends the Illinois Controlled Substances Act. Provides that a prescriber shall provide information to all patients receiving a prescription for opioids on overdose prevention and the use of naloxone hydrochloride or another drug approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for the complete or partial reversal of opioid depression.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Controlled Substances Act is |
5 | | amended by adding Section 316.5 as follows: |
6 | | (720 ILCS 570/316.5 new) |
7 | | Sec. 316.5. Naloxone Education. A prescriber shall provide |
8 | | information to all patients receiving a prescription for |
9 | | opioids on overdose prevention and the use of naloxone |
10 | | hydrochloride or another drug approved by the United States |
11 | | Food and Drug Administration for the complete or partial |
