Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that the corporate authorities of a municipality may provide for the establishment or maintenance of community policing centers, or may enter into contractual agreements with other entities for the establishment or maintenance of community policing centers, in high crime areas. Provides that the Department of Human Services shall provide grants of $100,000, subject to appropriation, to municipalities for the establishment or maintenance of community policing centers and that the Department shall adopt rules relating to the application process and eligibility requirements to receive such grants.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 11-5.2-5 as follows: |
6 | | (65 ILCS 5/11-5.2-5 new) |
7 | | Sec. 11-5.2-5. Community policing centers; grants. |
8 | | (a) The corporate authorities of a municipality may |
9 | | provide for the establishment or maintenance of community |
10 | | policing centers, or may enter into contractual agreements |
11 | | with other entities for the establishment or maintenance of |
12 | | community policing centers, in high crime areas. |
13 | | (b) The Department of Human Services shall provide grants |
14 | | of $100,000, subject to appropriation, to municipalities for |
15 | | the establishment or maintenance of community policing |
16 | | centers. The Department shall adopt rules relating to the |
17 | | application process and eligibility requirements to receive |
18 | | such grants.
