1 | | AN ACT concerning government.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Flag Display Act is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 11 as follows: |
6 | | (5 ILCS 465/11 new) |
7 | | Sec. 11. Display of flag at half-staff. The United States |
8 | | national flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first |
9 | | hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the |
10 | | half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the |
11 | | peak before it is lowered for the day. On Memorial Day, the |
12 | | flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then |
13 | | raised to the top of the staff. By order of the Governor, the |
14 | | flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of a present |
15 | | or former official of the government, the death of a member of |
16 | | the Armed Forces who dies while serving on active duty, the |
17 | | death of a first responder who dies while serving in the line |
18 | | of duty, or any other death or occurrence that the Governor |
19 | | deems worthy of such a recognition. An order of the Governor to |
20 | | fly the flag at half-staff may be for any length of time up to |
21 | | the greatest length of time enumerated in Section 7 of the |
22 | | United States Flag Code. For the purposes of this Section, |
23 | | "half-staff" means the position of the flag when it is |
