1    AN ACT concerning education.

 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
 
3represented in the General Assembly:


 
4    Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended  by 
5adding Section 120 as follows:
 
6    (110 ILCS 305/120 new)
7    Sec. 120. Personal support worker's attendance in class 
8permitted. If a student of the University has a personal 
9support worker through the Home-Based Support
Services Program 
10for Adults with Mental Disabilities under the
Developmental 
11Disability and Mental Disability Services Act, the Board of 
12Trustees must permit the personal support worker to attend 
13class with the student but is not responsible for providing or 
14paying for the personal support worker.  If the personal 
15support worker's attendance in class is solely to provide 
16personal support services to the student, the Board may not 
17charge the personal support worker tuition and fees for such 
18attendance.
 
19    Section 10. The Southern Illinois University Management 
20Act is amended  by adding Section 100 as follows:
 
21    (110 ILCS 520/100 new)

1    Sec. 100. Personal support worker's attendance in class 
2permitted. If a student of the University has a personal 
3support worker through the Home-Based Support
Services Program 
4for Adults with Mental Disabilities under the
Developmental 
5Disability and Mental Disability Services Act, the Board must 
6permit the personal support worker to attend class with the 
7student but is not responsible for providing or paying for the 
8personal support worker.  If the personal support worker's 
9attendance in class is solely to provide personal support 
10services to the student, the Board may not charge the personal 
11support worker tuition and fees for such attendance.
 
12    Section 15. The Chicago State University Law is amended  by 
13adding Section 5-210 as follows:
 
14    (110 ILCS 660/5-210 new)
15    Sec. 5-210. Personal support worker's attendance in class 
16permitted. If a student of the University has a personal 
17support worker through the Home-Based Support
Services Program 
18for Adults with Mental Disabilities under the
Developmental 
19Disability and Mental Disability Services Act, the Board must 
20permit the personal support worker to attend class with the 
21student but is not responsible for providing or paying for the 
22personal support worker.  If the personal support worker's 
23attendance in class is solely to provide personal support 
24services to the student, the Board may not charge the personal

3by adding Section 10-210 as follows:

8for Adults with Mental Disabilities under the
Developmental 
9Disability and Mental Disability Services Act, the Board must

12personal support worker.  If the personal support worker's 
13attendance in class is solely to provide personal support

17by adding Section 15-210 as follows:

22    Section 35. The Northeastern Illinois University Law is

5by adding Section 35-215 as follows:

8permitted. If a student of the University has a personal 
9support worker through the Home-Based Support
Services Program 
10for Adults with Mental Disabilities under the
Developmental 
11Disability and Mental Disability Services Act, the Board must 
12permit the personal support worker to attend class with the 
13student but is not responsible for providing or paying for the 
14personal support worker.  If the personal support worker's 
15attendance in class is solely to provide personal support 
16services to the student, the Board may not charge the personal 
17support worker tuition and fees for such attendance.
 
18    Section 50. The Public Community College Act is amended  by 
19adding Section 3-29.14 as follows:
 
20    (110 ILCS 805/3-29.14 new)
21    Sec. 3-29.14. Personal support worker's attendance in 
22class permitted. If a student of a community college district

1has a personal support worker through the Home-Based Support 
2Services Program for Adults with Mental Disabilities under the

3Developmental Disability and Mental Disability Services Act, 
4the board must permit the personal support worker to attend 
5class with the student but is not responsible for providing or 
6paying for the personal support worker.  If the personal 
7support worker's attendance in class is solely to provide 
8personal support services to the student, the board may not 
9charge the personal support worker tuition and fees for such 
10attendance.


 
11    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
12becoming law.
