AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2994




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2994 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
4    "Section 5. The Counties Code is amended  by adding Section 
55-1186 as follows:
 
6    (55 ILCS 5/5-1186  new)
7    Sec. 5-1186. Discontinuance of Capital Township in 
8Sangamon County. In addition to any other procedure available 
9by law to discontinue a township, upon resolutions of the 
10board of trustees of Capital Township in Sangamon County and 
11the Sangamon County Board, and after referendum approval by 
12the voters of the township and county: (1) Capital Township in 
13Sangamon County is discontinued; and (2) all the rights, 
14powers, duties, assets, property, liabilities, obligations, 
15and responsibilities of the Township are transferred to 
16Sangamon County, including, but not limited to, the

1administration of the Capital Township's general assistance 
2program.  Capital Township and Sangamon County shall follow the 
3same procedures that townships and municipalities must follow 
4under Article 29 of the Township Code in order to dissolve the 
5township and transfer all the rights, powers, duties, assets, 
6property, liabilities, obligations, and responsibilities of 
7the Township to the County.
 

8    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
9becoming law.".
