Amends the Election Code. Prohibits a member of the State Board of Elections, or a spouse of a member, from serving as an officer of a political committee or directing the actions of or the funds of a political committee. Requires any member of the State Board of Elections, prior to appointment to the State Board of Elections, to dissolve any political committee associated with the member as a candidate for office. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 1A-14 as follows:
|
6 | | (10 ILCS 5/1A-14) (from Ch. 46, par. 1A-14)
|
7 | | Sec. 1A-14.
No member of the State Board of Elections may |
8 | | become a candidate
for nomination for, or election to,
or |
9 | | accept appointment to or hold any other remunerative public |
10 | | office or public
employment or any office in a political |
11 | | party. No member, or spouse of a member, of the State Board of |
12 | | Elections shall serve as an officer of a political committee |
13 | | or otherwise direct the actions of, or the use of funds held |
14 | | by, a political committee. Any member of the State Board of |
15 | | Elections, prior to appointment to the State Board of |
16 | | Elections, must dissolve any political committee associated |
17 | | with the member as a candidate for office. Violation of any |
18 | | prohibition
in this Section shall disqualify a member of the |
19 | | Board and a
vacancy is thereby created. A vacancy also exists |
20 | | upon the occurrence of
any of the events enumerated in Section |
21 | | 25-2 of this Act as in the case
of an elective office.
