Amends the Nursing Home Care Act. Requires facilities to establish and maintain an infection and communicable disease prevention and control policy designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment and to help prevent the development and transmission of infections and communicable diseases. Provides that the policy must include, at a minimum, a system for preventing, identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases for all residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and other specified individuals. Provides that the policy shall be made available to the Department of Public Health upon request. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Nursing Home Care Act is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 2-218 as follows: |
6 | | (210 ILCS 45/2-218 new) |
7 | | Sec. 2-218. Infection and communicable disease prevention |
8 | | and control policy. A facility shall establish and maintain an |
9 | | infection and communicable disease prevention and control |
10 | | policy designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable |
11 | | environment and to help prevent the development and |
12 | | transmission of infections and communicable diseases. The |
13 | | infection and communicable disease prevention and control |
14 | | policy must include, at a minimum, a system for preventing, |
15 | | identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling |
16 | | infections and communicable diseases for all residents, staff, |
17 | | volunteers, visitors, and other individuals providing services |
18 | | under a contractual arrangement with the facility. The |
19 | | infection and communicable disease prevention and control |
20 | | policy shall be made available to the Department upon request.

21 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
22 | | becoming law.
