AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 290




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 290 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:


 
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended  by adding Section 
514-17 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/14-17 new)
7    Sec. 14-17. PUNS information.
8    (a) In this Section, "PUNS" means the Prioritization of 
9Urgency of Need for Services database established under 
10Section 10-26 of the Department of Human Services Act.
11    (b) A school district must provide written notification to 
12the parent or guardian of a student with an individualized 
13education program (IEP) that the student may be eligible to 
14receive additional services, benefits, or resources through 
15PUNS.
16    (c) A school district must provide the written

1notification under subsection (b) at the initial meeting 
2between the school district and the parent or guardian to 
3develop the student's IEP and once a year thereafter at a 
4regularly scheduled IEP meeting between the school district 
5and the parent or guardian.
6    (d) A school district must provide to the parent or 
7guardian of a student with an IEP a copy of the Department of 
8Human Services's guide titled "Understanding PUNS". 
9    (e) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules to 
10implement this Section. 
 
 
11    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
12becoming law.".
