SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Deacon Henry Curtis Travis, who passed
4away on November 22, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Henry Travis was born to Curtis and Rose (Myers)
6Travis in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on January 6, 1929; he was
7the second oldest of ten children and was raised in the Sheeplo
8and Indian Springs communities in Mississippi; he served as a
9corporal in the United States Army from January of 1951 to
10January of 1957; he was deployed on active duty during the
11Korean War, where he fought valiantly and was awarded a Purple
12Heart; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Henry Travis retired from the Caterpillar Tractor
14Company after 28 years of service; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Henry Travis served on the Executive Board of IAM
16851, the Dellwood Foundation, and Will County Board District
17#8; he also served as Precinct #24 Committeeman; he served 37
18years on the Fairmont School Board, with 22 of those years as
19school board president, and in appreciation of his service, the
20current gymnasium of Fairmont Elementary School was named in
21his honor; and

1    WHEREAS, Henry Travis was preceded in death by his wife of
262 years, Esther Lee Travis; his parents; his four brothers,
3Paul Travis, Odis Travis, Clark D. Travis, and William E.
4Travis; and his three sisters, Mary Carter, Loraine Edwards,
5and Betty Hall; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Henry Travis is survived by his three beloved
7children, Brad L. Travis, Marvin C. (Henrietta) Travis, and
8Kawonna L. Travis; his seven grandchildren, Brad C. Travis,
9Shawn Travis, Brian Travis, Brandon Travis, Stacia (James)
10Tate, Dorey (Maurice) Fields, and Karrington Dougherty; his 14
11great-grandchildren, Jalen, Dejah, Jayda, Jordan, Isaiah,
12Makayla, Bryan Lee, Alana, Stellina, Bryan Jeremiah, Devin,
13Aiden Travis, Mia Reid, Micah Fields, and Olivia Tate; his two
14great-great-grandchildren, Bryson and Elijah; his two
15brothers, Charles (Della) Travis and Joe L. (Joyce) Travis; his
16two special nephews, John F. Travis and Keith A. (Jeannie)
17Hall; his goddaughters, Birdie Wright and Sarah McLaurin; and a
18host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Deacon Henry Curtis Travis and extend our sincere condolences
23to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
24it further

2presented to the family of Henry Travis as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
