SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Duane Brooke Cultra of Onarga, who passed
4away on November 16, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Duane Cultra was born to Archie James and Grace
6Greenwood (Brooke) Cultra in Watseka on March 13, 1925; during
7World War Two, he served as a B17 pilot and flew 53 missions
8and sorties before being wounded by antiaircraft flack fire; he
9married Mary Jane Teller in St. Petersburg, Florida on June 2,
101944; after the war, he attended the University of Illinois and
11earned a degree in electrical engineering; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Duane Cultra was president of the Onarga Nursery
13Company, which was started by his grandfather, Robert Cultra,
14in 1865, after his return from service during the Civil War;
15the nursery continues to operate under the direction of family
16members; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Duane Cultra's love for flying continued
18throughout his life; he enjoyed traveling with his wife in his
19Piper Comanche and did so until his 80th birthday; he was a
20strong man with a loving, compassionate side; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Duane Cultra was preceded in death by his parents;

1his brothers; his sisters; and his daughter, Lucinda Brooke
2(Alvin) Wilken; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Duane Cultra is survived by his wife of 76 years,
4Jane; his children, Terence Patrick (Donna) Cultra, Cynthia
5Jane (Douglas) Harford, Shane (Peg) Cultra, and Mary Melissa
6(James) Downey; his 16 grandchildren; and his 30
7great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Duane Brooke Cultra and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Duane Cultra as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
