|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Robert G. "Bob" Dugal of Oak Park, who |
4 | | passed away on April 9, 2020 at the age of 58; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Dugal was born in Evergreen Park to William |
6 | | J. Dugal Jr. and Jacqueline "Jackie" Barclay Brady Dugal on |
7 | | June 1, 1961; he attended Holmes Elementary School; he |
8 | | graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1979, |
9 | | where he was a member of the wrestling team; he earned his |
10 | | bachelor's degree in business management from Purdue |
11 | | University in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1984; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Robert Dugal was a lifelong and proud resident of |
13 | | Oak Park; he became a life member of the Democratic Party of |
14 | | Oak Park, served on Senator Philip Rock's election committee, |
15 | | assisted as a state legislative aide, conducted the ADA |
16 | | compliance survey of Oak Park's elementary schools, and coached |
17 | | girls softball and soccer; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Dugal became a champion for disabled rights |
19 | | and was seen as a one-man apostle for the Americans with |
20 | | Disabilities Act; he suffered from Friederich's Ataxia, a |
21 | | progressively debilitating disease that attacks the muscles |
22 | | and nerves, and was confined to a wheelchair in adulthood; he |

1 | | pioneered the curb cut programs back in the early 1990s, which |
2 | | resulted in Oak Park transforming intersections to accommodate |
3 | | the wheelchair-bound; he worked to educate the public and was |
4 | | always available to share his expertise; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Dugal was involved in a number of |
6 | | organizations, including the Oak Park Cultural Tourism |
7 | | Committee, the Friederich's Ataxia Foundation, and the |
8 | | Progress Center of Independent Living as a founding member; he |
9 | | also founded and was a lifelong member of the Oak Park |
10 | | Committee on the Disabled; he had also co-chaired Oak Park's A |
11 | | Day in Our Village festival; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Robert Dugal was known for his good heart, caring |
13 | | attitude, good humor, and independent nature; he enjoyed |
14 | | planting flowers with his mom and helping his dad with home |
15 | | repairs; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Robert Dugal was preceded in death by his parents |
17 | | and his brother, Fr. Bill Dugal; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Dugal is survived by his siblings, Jack |
19 | | (Karen) Dugal, James (Nancy and the late Cheryl) Dugal M.D., |
20 | | Mary Ellen Dugal Dwyer, Kathleen (Robyn Guest) Dugal, and |
21 | | Patricia (Timothy) Klein; his nephews and nieces, Brian M.D., |
22 | | Michael, Jennifer N.P., Kevin Dugal, William IV (Rebecca) Dugal |

7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
8 | | Robert G. "Bob" Dugal and extend our sincere condolences to his |
9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
10 | | further

11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 | | presented to the family of Robert Dugal as an expression of our |
13 | | deepest sympathy.
