SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Louis Peter "Lou" Cipparrone, who passed
4away on November 17, 2019 at the age of 88; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone was born to Peter and Angela
6Cipparrone in Chicago on June 14, 1931, Flag Day, a birthday
7that suited him because he loved our nation's flag; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone grew up in Chicago's Little Italy
9neighborhood with his siblings, Bill, Gene, and Rose; he
10graduated from Crane Tech High School and became a pharmacy
11apprentice before being drafted in 1951 to serve as an army
12medic during the Korean War; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone worked alongside his fellow
14servicemen in the 4076 MASH Unit, the Mobile Army Surgical
15Hospital that was the inspiration for the television series
16M*A*S*H; he worked fearlessly and courageously throughout his
17career as a medic and became a hero and a healer; he was able to
18share the wisdom of his service with his children and his
19grandchildren; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone met Joann Greene, and soon their
21romance turned into a wedding; they were married on August 31,

11959; together, they raised their five children in Oak Park,
2where Lou would stay for the remainder of his life; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone and Joann Green Cipparrone had five
4beautiful children, Mickie, Louie, Cathy, Debbie, and Pete; he
5was loved dearly by his 14 grandchildren, who were his world
6and who he thought were "terrific" at whatever they did; he
7never ceased telling them they were deeply loved; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone was an exceptionally dedicated
9family man; every Sunday night for nearly 30 years, he and
10Joann hosted their famous family dinner; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone was known on the 800 block of
12Forest Avenue because of his zeal for holiday decorations; he
13was enthusiastic not only about holiday decorations but also
14about flying the American flag, both on holidays and whenever
15it pleased him; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone was a master handyman who had a
17sharp mind; he was a dedicated employee at the Louis Zahn Drug
18Company for 31 years; he will be dearly missed by family and
19friends; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone was preceded in death by his
21parents, Peter and Angeline Cipparrone; his brother, Eugene;

1and his brother-in-law, Darrill (Brenda) Greene; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Lou Cipparrone is survived by his wife, Joann; his
3children, Mickie (Chuck) Kerr, Louis Jr. (Carolyn), Cathy,
4Debbie (John) Figel, and Pete (Kris); his grandchildren, Danny,
5Kristen, Michael (Jane), Johnny, Micheline, Meghan, Tommy,
6Louie, Lizzie, Sam, Claire, Kate, Joe, and Grace; his siblings,
7Bill (the late Shirley) and Rose (Jerry) Mele; his
8brothers-in-law, Tom (Jayne) Greene and Larry (Aiko) Greene;
9and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be
10it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Louis Peter "Lou" Cipparrone and extend our sincere condolences
14to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Lou Cipparrone as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
