2 | | WHEREAS, the members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Gloria Jean Garofalo of Oak Park, who |
4 | | passed away on July 11, 2020 at the age of 76; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was born in Westlake, Ohio on |
6 | | October 30, 1943; she spent two years at Miami University in |
7 | | Ohio before becoming a stewardess in the 1960s for United |
8 | | Airlines in Chicago; while at United Airlines, she met her |
9 | | loving husband of 54 years, John Garofalo; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was an assistant teacher at |
11 | | Emerson (now Gwendolyn Brooks) Junior High School and the |
12 | | Assistant Director of Individual Giving at the Brookfield Zoo; |
13 | | she spent most of her career with the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust, |
14 | | serving first as a volunteer, then as Tour Center Director, as |
15 | | Director of Public Programs, and eventually as Director of |
16 | | Development; and

17 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was an active member of the |
18 | | community, volunteering with the Whittier School PTO and the |
19 | | Campfire Girls of Oak Park, serving as president and secretary |
20 | | of the Oak Park Day Nursery Board, serving as a
board member of |
21 | | the Ernest Hemingway Foundation, and serving as a longtime |
22 | | member of the women's philanthropic group, PEO; and
