SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, the members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gloria Jean Garofalo of Oak Park, who
4passed away on July 11, 2020 at the age of 76; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was born in Westlake, Ohio on
6October 30, 1943; she spent two years at Miami University in
7Ohio before becoming a stewardess in the 1960s for United
8Airlines in Chicago; while at United Airlines, she met her
9loving husband of 54 years, John Garofalo; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was an assistant teacher at
11Emerson (now Gwendolyn Brooks) Junior High School and the
12Assistant Director of Individual Giving at the Brookfield Zoo;
13she spent most of her career with the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust,
14serving first as a volunteer, then as Tour Center Director, as
15Director of Public Programs, and eventually as Director of
16Development; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was an active member of the
18community, volunteering with the Whittier School PTO and the
19Campfire Girls of Oak Park, serving as president and secretary
20of the Oak Park Day Nursery Board, serving as a board member of
21the Ernest Hemingway Foundation, and serving as a longtime
22member of the women's philanthropic group, PEO; and

1    WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was preceded in death by her
2parents and her brother-in-law, Mauro (Carol) Garofalo; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gloria Garofalo was mother to Christine (Eric)
4Lussow and JT (Arthur Thompson) Garofalo; grandma to Tyler and
5Cade Lussow; sister to Gus (Joanne) Prochazka; sister-in-law to
6Ronald (Gerry) and James (Sandi) Garofalo; and the aunt and
7great-aunt of many; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Gloria Jean Garofalo and extend our sincere condolences to her
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Gloria Garofalo as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
