SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Fred Meek of Rantoul, who passed away on
4November 26, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fred Meek was born in Rochester, Pennsylvania to
6Elden and Evalyn T. Meek on February 28, 1943; he attended
7grades K-12 in the East Palestine school system in Ohio; he
8graduated from East Palestine High School in June 1961; he
9earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from
10Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio; later, he
11conducted graduate studies in marketing at the University of
12Illinois; he served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at
13a number of bases, including Lackland Air Force Base in Texas,
14Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas, Chanute Air Force Base in
15Rantoul, and CCK Air Force Base in Taichung, Taiwan; he married
16Linda M. Schluter at the American Lutheran Church in Rantoul on
17August 23, 1970; together, they had two children, Marcy Todd
18and Michael Meek; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Fred Meek joined the J.C. Penney Company in
20Rochester, New York until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force;
21after his military service, he worked in the home building and
22modular building businesses for 35 years, spending the last 27
23years with Schluter Homes; and

1    WHEREAS, Fred Meek was an active member of the American
2Lutheran Church in Rantoul, where he served as president of the
3church council for two years; he was a member and held
4leadership positions in several organizations, including the
5Thomasboro Board of Education as president for six years, the
6Rantoul Exchange Club as president, the Rantoul Rotary, the
7Northern Champaign County Community Service Organization's
8Board of Directors, the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum
9Foundation as secretary, the Thomasboro Board of Trustees and
10Pack the Park Festivities, Thomasboro Youth Baseball, and the
11Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors; he
12volunteered with the Northern Champaign County Community
13Service Organization; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Fred Meek enjoyed spending time with his family,
15whatever the occasion; he also enjoyed being with people,
16golfing, being involved in community organizations, and
17attending athletic events; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Fred Meek was preceded in death by his parents;
19his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Fannie Meek; his maternal
20grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Taggart; and his two older
21brothers and best friends, Robert and John; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Fred Meek is survived by his wife; his children;

1and his granddaughter, Olivia; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Fred Meek and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
5friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Fred Meek as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
