2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Fred Meek of Rantoul, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | November 26, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Fred Meek was born in Rochester, Pennsylvania to | ||||||
6 | Elden and Evalyn T. Meek on February 28, 1943; he attended | ||||||
7 | grades K-12 in the East Palestine school system in Ohio; he | ||||||
8 | graduated from East Palestine High School in June 1961; he | ||||||
9 | earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from | ||||||
10 | Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio; later, he | ||||||
11 | conducted graduate studies in marketing at the University of | ||||||
12 | Illinois; he served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at | ||||||
13 | a number of bases, including Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, | ||||||
14 | Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas, Chanute Air Force Base in | ||||||
15 | Rantoul, and CCK Air Force Base in Taichung, Taiwan; he married | ||||||
16 | Linda M. Schluter at the American Lutheran Church in Rantoul on | ||||||
17 | August 23, 1970; together, they had two children, Marcy Todd | ||||||
18 | and Michael Meek; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Fred Meek joined the J.C. Penney Company in | ||||||
20 | Rochester, New York until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force; | ||||||
21 | after his military service, he worked in the home building and | ||||||
22 | modular building businesses for 35 years, spending the last 27 | ||||||
23 | years with Schluter Homes; and

1 | WHEREAS, Fred Meek was an active member of the American | ||||||
2 | Lutheran Church in Rantoul, where he served as president of the | ||||||
3 | church council for two years; he was a member and held | ||||||
4 | leadership positions in several organizations, including the | ||||||
5 | Thomasboro Board of Education as president for six years, the | ||||||
6 | Rantoul Exchange Club as president, the Rantoul Rotary, the | ||||||
7 | Northern Champaign County Community Service Organization's | ||||||
8 | Board of Directors, the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum | ||||||
9 | Foundation as secretary, the Thomasboro Board of Trustees and | ||||||
10 | Pack the Park Festivities, Thomasboro Youth Baseball, and the | ||||||
11 | Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors; he | ||||||
12 | volunteered with the Northern Champaign County Community | ||||||
13 | Service Organization; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Fred Meek enjoyed spending time with his family, | ||||||
15 | whatever the occasion; he also enjoyed being with people, | ||||||
16 | golfing, being involved in community organizations, and | ||||||
17 | attending athletic events; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Fred Meek was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
19 | his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Fannie Meek; his maternal | ||||||
20 | grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Taggart; and his two older | ||||||
21 | brothers and best friends, Robert and John; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Fred Meek is survived by his wife; his children; |

1 | and his granddaughter, Olivia; therefore, be it
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | Fred Meek and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
5 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Fred Meek as an expression of our | ||||||
8 | deepest sympathy.
