SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard C. "Dick" Johnson of Atlanta, who
4passed away on October 12, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dick Johnson was born in Beason to Carl and
6Maryetta (Hubbard) Johnson on April 13, 1936; he graduated from
7Lincoln High School in Lincoln; he married Mary Ellen Watkins
8on October 26, 1958; he served in the U.S. Marine Reserves for
96 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dick Johnson was a farmer who loved raising
11chickens and Hereford cattle; he could often be seen driving
12his van while delivering eggs from The White Feather Farm to
13businesses and families across 3 counties, feeding or chasing
14the cattle, checking the crops, or just out for a neighborhood
15visit; he retired in September after 60 years of doing what he
16loved; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dick Johnson lived a full life as a husband,
18father, mentor, and friend; he will be remembered for his sense
19of humor, sincere smile, joy for life, and unfailing work
20ethic; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dick Johnson was preceded in death by his parents

1and his brother, Paul Johnson; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dick Johnson is survived by his wife; his
3children, Patricia (Rodney) Backsmeier, Steve (Lori) Johnson,
4Julie (Steve) Slayton, Kimberly (Brent) Carlock, and Cindy
5(Darin) Schempp; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
6his brother, Larry Johnson; and his sister, Connie (Rich)
7Becker; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Richard C. "Dick" Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Dick Johnson as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
