2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of M. Lynn Martin of Springfield, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on September 16, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was born in Vincennes, Indiana to Hugh | ||||||
6 | A. and Ruth E. (Clark) Martin on November 2, 1948; he grew up | ||||||
7 | in Lawrenceville and attended Southern Illinois University; he | ||||||
8 | served in the U.S. Army from 1969 through 1971, which included | ||||||
9 | time as a chaplain's assistant in Heidelberg, Germany; he | ||||||
10 | married Diane Midkiff on August 7, 1971, and they relocated to | ||||||
11 | Oklahoma, where he attended Oklahoma Baptist University; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lynn Martin and his wife returned to Illinois in | ||||||
13 | 1973, and he began his ministry at First Baptist Church in | ||||||
14 | Effingham; shortly thereafter, he was ordained by the Southern | ||||||
15 | Baptist Church; he ministered through music to several churches | ||||||
16 | in Springfield, including Springfield Southern Baptist Church, | ||||||
17 | Wesley United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church, | ||||||
18 | and, most recently, Third Presbyterian Church; professionally, | ||||||
19 | he worked for the State of Illinois and retired in 2010; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was a talented pianist, singer, and | ||||||
21 | choral director; he gave his time and talents to local | ||||||
22 | community theaters and served on production staffs and |

1 | performed with The Muni, the Springfield Theater Center, the | ||||||
2 | Theater in the Park, and The Legacy Theater; he also | ||||||
3 | accompanied a variety of musicals for area schools and served | ||||||
4 | as a judge in regional school music contests; in his | ||||||
5 | retirement, he was a music teacher at St. Aloysius School; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was an advocate for honoring the | ||||||
7 | American flag; he had the privilege of serving as a volunteer | ||||||
8 | guardian with the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight chapter and | ||||||
9 | accompanied World War II and Korean War veterans on trips to | ||||||
10 | the memorials in Washington, D.C.; he was also proud to serve | ||||||
11 | as a local election judge; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was affectionately known as "Paw Paw" | ||||||
13 | to his grandchildren; his heart was never more full than when | ||||||
14 | he was with his family; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
16 | his sister, Marianna Martin; his father-in-law, Elvis J. | ||||||
17 | Midkiff; his brothers-in-law, Elvis L. and Lyle E. Midkiff; and | ||||||
18 | his sister-in-law, Cheryl Gadberry; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Lynn Martin is survived by his wife of 49 years, | ||||||
20 | Diane; his sons, Ryan Martin, Bradley (Adria) Martin, and | ||||||
21 | Jeffrey Martin; and his grandchildren, Hope, Madison, Jake, | ||||||
22 | Addie, Karli, Andrew, Clara, and Ava; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
3 | M. Lynn Martin and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
4 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
5 | further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Lynn Martin as an expression of our | ||||||
8 | deepest sympathy.
