SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Michael "MAB" Buckley of Bloomington, who
4passed away on September 8, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Buckley was born in Normal on April 30, 1944;
6he was raised in the Bloomington-Normal area; he attended
7Bloomington and Normal schools in his youth; he graduated from
8the Western Military Academy in Alton; he attended the
9University of Arkansas; he married Bette Mortimore in 1988, and
10they moved to Florida soon after; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mike Buckley worked in sales with his father at
12the Buckley Advertising Company in Normal; he eventually took
13over his father's business, becoming owner and president; after
14moving to Florida, he started and excelled in his second career
15as an insurance agent; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mike Buckley was a wonderful father; he was a
17record-breaking swimmer in his day and an accomplished pool
18player; he enjoyed golfing with his friends; he will be
19remembered for his witty sense of humor, funny stories, and
20exaggerated retelling of events; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Mike Buckley was preceded in death by his parents,

1Carl and Betty Buckley; his sister, Connie Fitch; and his wife,
2Bette Mortimore Buckley; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mike Buckley is survived by his children, Lisa
4(James) Mikus, Tina Cox, and Tyler (Angela) Buckley; his
5grandchildren, Matt Mikus, Will Mikus, Colton Buckley, and
6Emersyn Buckley; his niece, Debbie Polzin; his nephews, Jeff
7(Shawn) Polzin and Mike (Grace) Polzin; his former wife and the
8mother of Tyler and Tina, Patsy Henderson Bowles; and his many
9friends from Bloomington and Florida; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Michael "MAB" Buckley and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Mike Buckley as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
