SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gary Shannon Upton of Bloomington, who
4passed away August 24, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Upton was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to
6Mollie Day and Myles Upton on May 24, 1943; and
 
7    WHEREAS, A proud member of the United States Army and a
8Vietnam War veteran, Gary Upton retired from the Army as a
9first sergeant in 1985 after 24 years of service; after his
10career in the Army, Gary Upton served as a deputy sheriff and
11worked for the United States Army Finance Center in
12Indianapolis, Indiana and the United States Army Distribution
13and Publications Center in St Louis, Missouri; he officially
14retired in 2006; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gary Upton was an avid fan of the St. Louis
16Cardinals; he was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time with
17family and going out for coffee at his "home away from home",
18Shannon's Five Star Restaurant; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gary Upton was preceded in death by his parents
20and multiple siblings; and

1    WHEREAS, Gary Upton is survived by his wife of 53 years,
2Darla Jean Upton; his daughters, Jodi Upton Hicks (Sam Howard)
3and Jennifer Upton Galanti (Paul); his sons, Scott Upton
4(Laurie) and Kevin Schaefer (Rebecca); his grandchildren,
5Peyton Hicks, Justin, Austin, and Miles Upton, and Carson
6Schaefer; and his step-grandchildren, Jonathan, Brandon, and
7Celia Galanti; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Gary Shannon Upton and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Gary Upton as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
