SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard Joseph Hoeniges of Bloomington,
4who passed away on July 26, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges was born to Martin J. and Eileen
6Hoeniges on December 7, 1937; he graduated from Trinity High
7School in 1956 and joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1957; he
8married Gloria Ann Sweeney on January 10, 1959; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges joined the Bloomington Police
10Department in 1960 and served his community for 31 years,
11retiring as a detective; he was affectionately called "Pops" by
12his fellow officers; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges had a deep faith and played an
14active part in the Cursillo movement; he started a chaplain
15program at the police department and served tirelessly at St.
16Mary's Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen; he was a man full of
17love, compassion, honesty, humility and grace; he had a natural
18ability to lift the spirits of those around him using his
19charm, kindness and dry sense of humor; he enjoyed living life
20to the fullest; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges was preceded in death by his

1parents; his brothers, Andrew and John Hoeniges; numerous
2sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and two nephews; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges is survived by his wife of over
461 years, Gloria; his sons, Richard (Mary) Hoeniges II, Robert
5(Robin) Hoeniges, James (Laura) Hoeniges, Daniel (Julie)
6Hoeniges, and Joseph (Carol) Hoeniges; his daughter, Mauria
7(Kenneth) Herman; his grandchildren, Levi, Maurice, Noah,
8Jared, Erik, Abigail, Jack, Kain, Chelsea, Lily, Ivy, Jazmine,
9Kaleb, Tacoma, and Kole; his great-grandchildren, Malia, Luna,
10Avery, and Violet; his siblings, Martin Hoeniges, Florence (E.
11Michael) Walsh, Marie Evans, Patricia (Dan) Richardson, and
12Elizabeth (Dale) Kindred; his sisters-in-law, Tammy Hoeniges,
13Phyllis Prochnow, and Ruth Sweeney; his brother-in-law, John
14(Debba) Sweeney; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Richard Joseph Hoeniges and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Richard Hoeniges as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
