SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Frederick J. "Fred" Zalaznik, who passed
4away on May 5, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik was born to Joseph and Johanna
6(Tercek) Zalaznik on May 28, 1924; he attended Waukegan Public
7High School and served in the U.S. Army in World War II from
8March of 1943 to December of 1945 as a combat engineer; he
9served in the European, Mediterranean, African, and Middle
10Eastern theaters and received combat ribbons for each; he
11married Marie Repp; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik worked for Abbott Laboratories and
13the North Chicago Police Department before joining the North
14Chicago Fire Department; he rose through the ranks to become
15fire chief and was elected president of the Illinois Fire
16Chiefs Association from 1969 to 1970; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik served on the North Chicago High
18School Board and was an instructor for Explorer scouts; he was
19a hunter, fisherman, gardener, ice skater, cross country skier,
20bicycle rider, and golfer, which he continued to enjoy into his
2180s; he was a member of Mother of God Parish in Waukegan and
22St. Michael's Church in Keshena, Wisconsin; and

1    WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik was preceded in death by his wife,
2Marie; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennie (John) Zabukovec;
3and his parents; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Fred Zalaznik is survived by his children, Janet
5(Martin) Anderson, Lawrence (Debora), Gerald, and John (Grace
6Anderson); his grandchildren, Anna (Jared) Petersen, Dr.
7Martin Anderson (Dr. Chelsea Dorsey), David (Allison)
8Anderson, Cara (Fred) Hoppe, Alex (Deanna) Zalaznik, Anthony
9Zalaznik, and Rachel Zalaznik; his great-grandchildren, Vada
10and Mayim Petersen, Kamryn, Evelynn, and Vivian Hoppe, Wyatt
11and Nolan Anderson, and Lily and Eva Anderson; his
12sisters-in-law, Marge (the late Gil) Heaphy and RoseAnn (the
13late Adolph) Jerdee and their families; and his nieces, Jamie
14(Larry Thompson) Zabukovec, Judy Derra, Janice (Richard)
15Davis, and Julie (Robert McKay) Zabukovec; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Frederick J. "Fred" Zalaznik and extend our sincere condolences
19to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Fred Zalaznik as an expression of
