SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Frank L. Urbanik of Wadsworth, who passed
4away on April 18, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik was born to Joseph and Sophia
6(Murzyn) Urbanik in North Chicago on July 4, 1931; he graduated
7from Waukegan High School in 1949 and proudly served his
8country in the Korean War as a US Army Private First Class
9(Marksmen) stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik worked two full-time jobs for many
11years to support his young family, both as a switchman for the
12EJ&E railroad and as an electrician for the US Steel Wiremill;
13subsequently, he spent over 45 years as a master electrician.
14retiring from both US Steel and the Department of Defense; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik was a member of Holy Rosary,
16Immaculate Conception, and Saint Patrick's parishes over the
17years; he was also a lifelong member of the Knights of
18Columbus; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The most important things to Frank Urbanik were
20his family, his faith, and baseball; in his youth, he was a
21standout third baseman and great hitter who could have played

1for the majors had he not been called away to service; he
2played semi-pro ball across Chicagoland with St Joes and the
3North Shore League and was actively recruited by Major League
4scouts for multiple tryouts, including the Cleveland Indians
5and the Chicago Cubs; even in old age, he was a fierce
6competitor, whether he was playing softball, golfing with his
7best friends, or playing checkers and baggo with his kids; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik was preceded in death by his
9parents; his daughter, Joan Marie; his brothers, Aloysius and
10Joseph; and his sister, Vera Lenzini; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Frank Urbanik is survived by his beloved wife of
1265 years, Rosemary; his children, Cynthia Urbanik, Deborah
13Wicks, and Frank Jr; his grandchildren, Audrey Dzhurov,
14Nicholas Hawn, Melissa Hawn, Jaime Wicks, Alex Wicks, Joseph
15Urbanik, Luke Urbanik, and Faith Urbanik; his
16great-grandchildren, Rose, Cailin, Raegan, Sydney, Rachel,
17Josie, Mia, Michael, Beau, and Elio; his sister, Rita Mateja;
18and his beloved big brother, Anthony; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Frank L. Urbanik and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
