SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Deacon Jack M. Kettering of Rock Island,
4who passed away on June 16, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Kettering was born in Rock Island on August
68, 1932; at 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in
7Korea; after his service, he finished high school and went on
8to attend St. Ambrose College on the GI Bill; Jack married
9Marian Leenknecht on May 4, 1957; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jack Kettering became a mail carrier for the U.S.
11Postal Service and often carried additional jobs to support his
12growing family; when the Permanent Diaconate was established,
13Jack was called to serve the Diocese of Peoria and was ordained
14on November 18, 1979; he engaged in jail and hospital ministry,
15coordinated religious education programs, visited shut-ins,
16delivered homilies, and assisted at Mass; later in life, Jack
17deeply enjoyed working as the maintenance Supervisor at the
18Circa '21 theater; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In his middle age, Jack Kettering developed a
20passion for running and completed his first marathon at the age
21of 45; he loved road races, marathons, and triathlons and was
22even invited to compete in the Ironman Competition; and

1    WHEREAS, Jack Kettering was preceded in death by his
2parents; his brother, Dick Kettering; his son, Stephen; his
3daughter, Katherine; and his granddaughter, Heather; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jack Kettering is survived by his wife, Marian;
5his brother, Donald; his sons, Joe (Rose), Tom (Kim), and John
6(Don); his daughter, Jane; his eight grandchildren; his six
7great-grandchildren; and his great-grandchild who is on the
8way; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Deacon Jack M. Kettering and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Jack Kettering as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
