SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Elmer W. Johnson of Orion, who passed
4away on June 7, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson was born in Geneseo to Knute and
6Oliva Karlson Johnson on August 14, 1922; he served in the U.S.
7Marine Corp for four years and was stationed in the Pacific
8theater at Peleliu and Okinawa; he received two Purple Hearts
9during World War II; he married Mary Frances Cook at Beulah
10Presbyterian Church in Orion on November 30, 1947; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson worked as an assembler, repairer,
12and painter at I.H. Farmall Works for 38 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson was a member of St. Paul Lutheran
14Church in Orion; he was on the St. Paul Lutheran Property
15Committee Cemetery Board for six years and was active in the
16American Legion; he was a member of the VFW and the local 1506
17UAW Union; he was a Little League coach for Orion and visited
18all 50 states with his wife; he loved to paint during his
19retirement; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson was preceded in death by his
21parents; his sister, Margaret Johnson Hertz; his brothers, Carl

1and L. Willard Johnson; and his daughter-in-law, Phyllis
2Johnson; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Elmer Johnson is survived by his wife, Mary; his
4children, Thomas Johnson, Daniel (Karen) Johnson, Marty
5(Suzanne) Johnson, and Malia (Steve Knochenmus) Owens; his
6half-brothers, Andy and Leonard Johnson; his half-sisters,
7Evelyn Schollerman and Iris Hamilton; his grandchildren, Kelly
8(Scott) Peterson, Kevin (Emily) Johnson, Sarah (Eoin) Walsh,
9Corey Johnson, Ashley (Tyler) Horberg, and Destiny Knochenmus;
10and his great-grandchildren, Kody and Bryan Peterson and Kyah
11and Kile Johnson; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Elmer W. Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Elmer Johnson as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
