SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Warren Ray Thom of Plainfield, who passed
4away on May 27, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Warren Thom was born in Decatur to Bernice and
6Elmer Thom on September 5, 1946; he graduated from Eisenhower
7High School in Decatur in 1964; he attended Miami University of
8Ohio and then graduated from Illinois State University with a
9bachelor's degree in science in 1970; he married Susan Floyd;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Warren Thom taught in the science department at
12Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills for his entire
1333-year career; he coached basketball, cross-country, and
14track and helped with many athletic activities; he was active
15in the teacher's association and enjoyed attending retired
16teacher events; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Warren Thom and Susan liked to travel with their
18family and as a couple; they visited all 50 states and numerous
19countries, often with the American and British Sundial
20Associations to visit historic sundial sights; Warren
21especially liked visiting France, Scotland, and the U.S.
22Pacific Northwest; and

1    WHEREAS, Warren Thom was involved with the Will County
2Democrats and the Plainfield Township Democrats; he served as
3township precinct committeeman; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Warren Thom was a member of the Universalist
5Unitarian Church of Joliet for 48 years; he served in many
6leadership roles and enjoyed the free ranging discussion in the
7Sunday adult discussion group; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Warren Thom was preceded in death by his parents;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Warren Thom is survived by his wife of over 50
11years, Susan; his sons and daughters-in-law, Warren "Ray" Jr.
12(Tonja), Samuel (Crystal), Matthew (Tatiana), and Benjamin
13(Jennifer); his grandchildren, Skylar, Tres, Caden, Bryden,
14Kylee, Noah, Savanna, Tobias, Lucas, and Genevieve; his
15brother, Wayne; his sisters, Reva and Marilyn; and many nieces
16and nephews; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Warren Ray Thom and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
