SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Suzzanna M. Hubert of Champaign, who
4passed away on May 10, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert was born in Urbana to Blake and
6Nancy A. (Ewing) Hubert on January 16, 1983; she graduated from
7Centennial High School in Champaign and then backpacked across
8Germany and also visited cities in Austria; she attended the
9University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Southern Illinois
10University; she enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2010 as an FC
11(fire control-radar and missiles) and became a petty officer
12third class upon graduating from boot camp; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert was attached to her first ship,
14the USS Anchorage, in New Orleans during the final completion
15stages of its construction; her ship had the unique experience
16of retrieving the test launch of the space capsule Orion EFT-1;
17she helped track the descent of the capsule and watched the
18splashdown and recovery from the deck of the ship; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert's ship was deployed to the Middle
20East; it made stops in Thailand, where she rode an elephant,
21Israel, where she visited Jerusalem, Jordan, where she was
22re-baptized in the River Jordan, and Petra; and

1    WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert crossed the equator numerous
2times, becoming a "turtleback"; she was promoted through the
3ranks to petty officer first class and qualified for chief
4petty officer in 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert was proud to receive her
6bachelor's degree in history and was planning to teach history
7at the college level after retiring from the Navy; she
8discovered a love for teaching while she served at the Great
9Lakes Naval Base Center for Surface Combat Systems as a master
10training specialist; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert loved photography and taking
12photos of sites around the world; she also loved hiking and
13visiting national parks and had already visited over 50
14national parks and monuments; she enjoyed running, completing
155Ks in numerous cities; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Suzzanna Hubert is survived by her parents; her
17sisters, Jennifer M. Roland and Lauren P. Hubert; her
18brother-in-law, Stephen Roland; her nephews, Ethan and Owen
19Roland; eight aunts and uncles; and nine cousins; therefore, be
20it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Suzzanna M. Hubert and extend our sincere condolences to her
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it

5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Suzzanna Hubert as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
