SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David C. "Dave" Sutton, Ph.D. of
4Champaign, who passed away on April 2, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was born in Ardmore, Pennsylvania to
6Robert M. Sutton and Grace Leeds Sutton on December 18, 1933;
7he was raised as a Quaker; he attended Westtown School and
8Haverford College; he earned his doctorate in physics from
9Princeton University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was a faculty member of the University
11of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign until his retirement in 1990;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was a member of the Unitarian
14Universalist Church of Urbana-Champaign; through UUCUC and
15other organizations, he worked steadfastly to support social
16action, racial justice, and criminal justice system reform; he
17was a longtime member of the Champaign Ski Club, and he enjoyed
18skiing downhill and freestyle; he also enjoyed singing
19barbershop as well as in choir, spending time outdoors, and
20visiting the Colorado Rockies, where he spent summers as a boy
21and maintained close ties throughout his life; and

1    WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was inquisitive, tenacious, funny,
2and generous; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was preceded in death by his parents
4and his brother, Robert Leeds Sutton; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dave Sutton is survived by his wife of 31 years,
6Nancy M. Hanks-Sutton; his daughter, Eliza Leeds Sutton (John
7D. Sahr); his grandson, John I. Sahr; and his nieces, Laura
8Sutton-Barnes, Celia Pado, and Robin Sutton; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11David C. "Dave" Sutton and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Dave Sutton as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
