SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph Mason "Joe" Alwan Sr. of Peoria,
4who passed away on May 3, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Alwan Sr. was born in Itoo, Lebanon to Mason
6and Nabeha Alwan on September 12, 1935; he married Aminee Awada
7in Peoria on January 11, 1966; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Joe Alwan Sr. co-founded Alwan Brothers Meat
9Company in Peoria in 1955; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joe Alwan Sr. was devoted to his faith; he was a
11member of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Peoria and
12St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joe Alwan Sr. was known as a hardworking,
14gregarious, honest, and compassionate man; he loved his family,
15and they were everything to him, especially his grandchildren;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joe Alwan Sr. is survived by his wife, Aminee; his
18sons, Joseph Jr., Christopher (Kim), and Patrick (MaryBeth);
19his daughter, Michelle Alwan; his seven grandchildren, Mason
20Alwan, Caitlin Alwan, Matthew Alwan, Joey Alwan III, John

1Alwan, Abraham Alwan, and Luke Alwan; his brothers, Jim and
2William Alwan; his sister, Laurice Alwan; and his three
3step-grandchildren, Kate, Maggie, and Grace Scooler;
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Joseph Mason "Joe" Alwan Sr. and extend our sincere condolences
8to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
9it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Joe Alwan Sr. as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
