SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John C. Beck, who passed away on April
413, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Beck was born in Hays, Kansas to Robert and
6Donna Beck on April 23, 1962; his family settled in Rockford in
71968; he graduated from Rockford West High School in 1980 and
8from the University of Illinois in 1985 with a Bachelor of
9Science in Economics; he met his future wife, Sandra, in 1985;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, After graduating college, John Beck joined the
12team at the Regional Access & Mobilization Project (RAMP); he
13led RAMP through their first capital campaign, enabling them to
14purchase their home on Market Street; his outreach and
15connections with the City of Rockford, the Rockford Mass
16Transit District, the Rockford Park District, Rockford
17Chariots, and countless corporations and organizations were
18immeasurable; he represented RAMP on numerous boards,
19including the Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities in
20Illinois; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Beck joined the Rockford Park District in
22October of 2007 as the Project Manager for Arts and Events and

1as the Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance Officer; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Beck served as an alderperson for Rockford's
312th Ward for 19 years; he served in various capacities,
4including as chair of the Finance & Personnel Committee and on
5the Rockford Area Arts Council, combining his love of service
6with his love of the arts; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Beck had a passion for working with others
8from all backgrounds through many events and programs,
9including the annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition, the
10Festival of Lights, and Music in the Park; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Beck was a founding member of the Rockford
12Chariots Wheelchair Athletic Association; he helped form an
13adult wheelchair basketball team, which inspired the
14development of a junior wheelchair basketball team with the
15Rockford Park District; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Beck believed every person that RAMP served
17deserved an equal opportunity and strove to level the playing
18field for all people with disabilities; he was courageous,
19compassionate, thoughtful, and a good listener; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Beck is survived by his wife, Sandra; his
21father, Robert Beck; his mother, Donna Beck; and his sisters,

2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5John C. Beck and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
6friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of John Beck as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
