SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marion Alexander Collins of Moline, who
4passed away on March 3, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marion Collins was born to Alphonso and Mattie
6Pennington Collins in Marion on September 22, 1943; he
7graduated from Rock Island High School in 1961 and attended
8North Carolina (Greensboro) A&T College where he majored in
9music; always a romantic, Marion married Cathy (Mattox) Collins
10in Moline on Valentine's Day in 1998; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marion was a U.S. Army veteran who served during
12Vietnam; after the war, he began an over 30 year career as a
13youth counselor and music director at the Arrowhead Ranch youth
14treatment facility in Coal Valley; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Marion Collins had three strong foundations in his
16life, family, music, and service; throughout his life, he
17taught, inspired, accompanied, and entertained thousands
18through his musical mastery; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Marion Collins was preceded in death by his
20parents, Alphonso and Mattie Pennington Collins, and his first
21wife, Helen (Pettigrew) Collins; and

1    WHEREAS, Marion Collins is survived by his loving wife,
2Cathy (Mattox) Collins; his daughter, Carla Collins; his son,
3Rich Bassford; his grandchildren, Bailey Bassford, Riley
4Bassford, and Kelly (Max Turner) Marsh; his brothers, Alphonso
5(Sharon) Collins Jr., Mervyn (Carol) Collins, and Jim (Karen)
6Collins; his very close friend, Dean Davis; and his many
7nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country; therefore, be
8it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Marion Alexander Collins and extended our sincere condolences
12to his family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him;
13and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Marion Collins as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
