SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roy E. Bayless of Silvis, who passed away
4on March 24, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roy Bayless was born in Huntington, West Virginia
6to James L. and Mary (Barrett) Bayless on February 7, 1925; he
7graduated from high school in 1943; he served in the U.S. Navy
8in the Pacific; he was discharged from the Navy in April 1946;
9he married his high school sweetheart Betty Lou Preston in
10Bowling Green, Ohio on April 28, 1946; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Roy Bayless was hired by the Airlines National
12Terminal Service Company and the Airport Operations Company,
13where he spent 13 years in various airport operation positions;
14he left Willow Run, Michigan as Assistant Airport Manager for
15the Airport Director position in Riverside, California in 1959;
16while there, he was named Airport Manager of the Year; he
17accepted the position of Director of Aviation in Austin, Texas
18in 1974; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Roy Bayless served in a number of organizations
20during his career; in Riverside, he was elected president of
21the California Association of Airport Executives and served as
22chairman of the Airport Administrators Council for three years;

1in Austin, he was elected president of the American Association
2of Airport Executives (AAAE), was as a board member of the
3Airport Operators Council International for four years, served
4as chairman of the Aviation Advisory Committee for the Texas
5Transportation Institute and Texas A&M University for nine
6years, and was a member of the Austin Retirement Board for two
7years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Roy Bayless enjoyed fishing, especially with his
9grandsons, at the family's home on Lake Wisconsin; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Roy Bayless is survived by his wife of 73 years,
11Betty; his daughter, Marcia (Jeff) Gunderson; his son, Gregory
12Bayless; his grandchildren, Marcus (Julie) Quaranta, Chad
13(Julie) Quaranta, and Kelli Schafer; and his six
14great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Roy E. Bayless and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Roy Bayless as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
