2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Celestine "Bunchie" Jakes of Chicago, who |
4 | | passed away on January 9, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes was born in Wabash, Arkansas to |
6 | | Reverend Johnnie James Sr. and Callie Jakes on January 11, |
7 | | 1947; she was the youngest of 10 children and enjoyed being the |
8 | | baby of her family; she graduated from Lakeview High School in |
9 | | Elaine, Arkansas in 1965; she followed many of her siblings and |
10 | | moved to Chicago; she organized, alongside her sisters, a |
11 | | social club called The Socialites; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes was deeply committed to her faith; |
13 | | she was a member of the faith family of West Point Missionary |
14 | | Baptist Church in Chicago; formerly, she was a member of |
15 | | Liberty Baptist Church in Chicago and First New Christian |
16 | | Baptist Church in Los Angeles; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes was a dedicated mother and modeled |
18 | | her parenting after her own parents; she was loving and |
19 | | compassionate and believed in discipline; she was also a loyal |
20 | | friend, especially to her siblings and her classmates at |
21 | | Lakeview High School; she believed in honesty and was |
22 | | forthright to a fault; and
