SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Flowers Jr. of Chicago, who passed
4away on December 29, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Flowers Jr. was born in Gunnison,
6Mississippi to Robert and Elvirra Flowers Sr. on December 10,
71955; while living in Mississippi, he worked in the field as a
8cotton picker with his mother and six siblings; he attended
9Broad Street High School in Shelby, Mississippi; he was an
10active member of the high school's football team; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Flowers Jr. moved to Chicago in 1979; he
12became employed as a security guard; later, he was employed at
13Country Delight Dairy as a truck loader; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert Flowers Jr. met his wife, Olivia Hodges, in
151980; one child was born from their union; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Robert Flowers Jr. was baptized and became a
17member of New True Love Missionary Baptist Church on December
187, 2003 under the late Alford Williams Sr., where he served as
19a faithful usher; he was later ordained as a Deacon under the
20leadership of Pastor Anthony R. Stepney III; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Flowers Jr. enjoyed playing cards,
2barbecuing, fishing, making hot tamales, and spending time with
3his grandchildren; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Robert Flowers Jr. was preceded in death by his
5parents; his sisters, Marie Dinkins, Elvirra Jackson, Estella
6Flowers, and Tina Flowers; and his brother, John Flowers; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert Flowers Jr. is survived by his wife, Olivia
8Flowers; his children, Marchalle Barksdale, Robert (Shuntae)
9McAfee, Robin Flowers, Patrick Osborne, Raven Flowers, and Kent
10(Hillary) Jones; his grandchildren, Zion, Railey, Ranijah,
11Kent Jr., Bliss, Dejah, Aniya, Eboneke, Young, Devante,
12Javaris, and Eliana; his great grandchildren, Kevon, Michael,
13and Neveah; his godchildren, Jahmyra and Jamonte; his brother,
14Freddie Rushing; his sisters-in-law, Linda Bates and Joi
15Flowers; his brothers-in-law, Michael Hodges, Edward
16(Margarita) Hodges, and Frank Brown; and his nieces, nephews,
17cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Robert Flowers Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
