SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William Carlos Mitchell of East Moline,
4who passed away on November 18, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Mitchell was born in East St. Louis to
6William F. and Evelyn (Cook) Mitchell on March 9, 1940; he
7married Hortense Jimison in East St. Louis on July 4, 1961; and
 
8    WHEREAS, William Mitchell worked as a letter carrier for
9the U.S. Postal Service; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Mitchell was a former member of
11Progressive Baptist Church in Davenport, Iowa; most recently,
12he was a member of Second Baptist Church in Rock Island; he was
13a Sunday school teacher and student and was active with the
14male chorus and brotherhood; he enjoyed helping others,
15visiting nursing homes, woodworking, and traveling; he was a
16great storyteller, songwriter, and grandfather; and
 
17    WHEREAS, William Mitchell was preceded in death by his
18parents; his stepmother, Eather Mitchell; his brother, Kevin;
19his infant sister; and his son, Todd Mitchell; and
 
20    WHEREAS, William Mitchell is survived by his wife of 58

1years, Hortense; his children, Tia (Jimmie) Payne, Tracy
2Edwards, Theresa (Ron) Owens, Trina Mitchell, and Trevor
3Mitchell/Makin (Aasiyah) Hamzah; his grandchildren, Tiarra
4(Michael), Taylor, Perri, Mitchell, Morgan, Salahudin, and
5Rukan; his great-grandchildren, Aajon, Maite, and Aariyah; his
6siblings, Patryce Taylor, Karen (James) Farley, Debra Parker,
7and Deidre (Chris) Smith; his aunt, Iola Harrington; and
8numerous family and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11William Carlos Mitchell and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of William Mitchell as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
