SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard L. Matthies, who passed away on
4August 27, 2019 at the age of 82; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Matthies completed his Bachelor of Arts at
6Cornell College in Iowa; he earned a master's degree at Purdue
7University and did additional graduate work at the University
8of Wisconsin Madison; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Matthies met his wife, Mary Ellen, at the
10University of Wisconsin Madison; together, they had two
11children, Kristin and Kent; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Richard Matthies was a resident of Oak Park for 33
13years before moving to Downers Grove in 2002; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Richard Matthies served as a dean of Oak Park and
15River Forest High School for 22 years; he was a member of the
16Oak Park Fire and Police Commission for 10 years and served as
17a part-time coordinator of volunteers at Oak Park Hospital for
1812 years; after he moved to Downers Grove, he served for six
19years on the Downers Grove Fire and Police Commission; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Richard Matthies was preceded in death by his

1brother, Bob; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Richard Matthies is survived by his wife, Mary
3Ellen; his children, Kristin (Mark Angel) and Kent (Kristin
4Shipler); and his sister, Buena (Steve) Copsey and their sons;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Richard Matthies and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Richard Matthies as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
