SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ruth F. Luthringer of Oak Park, who
4passed away on August 8, 2019 at the age of 95; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer was born on July 6, 1924 to
6Charles Ferrill and Ethel Powell; she grew up in Berea,
7Kentucky during the Great Depression; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer attended Berea College; she then
9earned her master's degree in sociology from Columbia
10University in New York; she became a social worker and was
11active throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer married John Lewis Luthringer
13with whom she had four children; among her many joys in life,
14her family was her greatest; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer volunteered with numerous
16charities in her community and continued this work well into
17her 90s; she was passionate about donating her time to the
18community; she served as treasurer of the Oak Park and River
19Forest High School board from the early 1970s to 1980 and
20taught English at Taipei University from 1988 to 1989; and

1    WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer continued her education in the
2arts; after her children left for college, she took classes in
3painting and photography; she was skilled in both arts, but
4photography became her passion; among her photographic
5accomplishments, a photo she took is on permanent display in
6the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago; she also became
7the personal photographer for President Jimmy Carter when he
8worked with Habitat for Humanity in the Midwestern states; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer was preceded in death by her
10parents, Charles Ferrill and Ethel Powell; her siblings; her
11husband, John Lewis Luthringer; and her second child, George;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer is survived by her children, John,
14Virginia, and David; her six grandchildren; and her two
15great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Ruth F. Luthringer and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Ruth F. Luthringer as an expression
