SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Lester W. Umland of Moline, who passed 
4away on October 26, 2019; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Lester Umland was born in Moline to Walter and 
6Elizabeth (Gamtau) Umland on March 4, 1933; he graduated from 
7Moline High School and the DeVry Technical Institute; he served 
8in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in 
9Germany; he married Patricia Schroeder in Davenport, Iowa on 
10June 2, 1956; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Lester Umland was employed by the  McLaughlin Body 
12Company for 37 years, retiring in 1990; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Lester Umland and his wife loved traveling and 
14enjoyed several cruises; after the war, he took his wife on a 
15memorable trip back to Germany; he enjoyed building and flying 
16radio-controlled airplanes and loved spending time with his 
17family and his dogs; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Lester Umland was preceded in death by his 
19parents; his sister, Jeanette; and his son, Steven Tyson; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Lester Umland is survived by his wife, Patricia,

1and  his daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Burns and Teresa (Charles) 
2Wentz; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL 
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
5Lester W. Umland and extend our sincere condolences to his 
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
7further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to  the family of  Lester Umland as an expression of 
10our deepest sympathy.
